(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿਧ) ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਨ ।
The four cardinal blessings are obtained by serving the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਅਲੱਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, ਇਹੀ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ (-ਰੱੁਖ ਮਨੋਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ।
The Elysian Tree, the source of all blessings, is meditation on the Unseen and Unknowable Lord.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੋੜਵੰਦ ਹੋਵੇ,
One who prays for the four cardinal blessings
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ।
should commit himself to the service of the Saints.
(ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਕਮਲ ਦਾ ਖੇੜਾ;
the four cardinal blessings, the opening of the heart-lotus;
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿਣਾ;
in the midst of all, and yet detached from all;
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੰੁਦਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਰੁੱਖ, ਚਿੰਤਾਮਣਿ ਤੇ ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਹਨ,
He is the ocean of peace; the miraculous tree of life, the wish-fulfilling jewel, and the Kaamadhayna, the cow which fulfills all desires, all are in His power.
ਧਰਮ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਮ ਮੋਖ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਨੌ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਲੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The four great blessings, the eighteen supernatural spiritual powers of the Siddhas, and the nine treasures, are all in the palm of His hand. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਰਸੈਣ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ ।
The Name of the Lord is the medicine to cure all diseases; so serve the Lord, O humble Saints.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੁੱਲ) ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ ।੪।੪।
The four great blessings are obtained, O Nanak, by vibrating upon the Lord, under Guru's Instruction. ||4||4||
(ਲੋਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਇਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਨ ।
The four great blessings are under the control of the True Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਪਹਿਲੇ) ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੫।
When the first three are put aside, one is blessed with the fourth. ||5||
